Does a new custom wordpress media library need to be created to store a selected image

0

Does a new media library window need to be created in order to save the url of a selected image for a real time update of a page? We're using the WordPress built in media library.

We've created a front end form that includes image selection in WordPress. When a user selects an image we'd like to update the image in real time on the page. Not save it per se(that will be done with the form), but as a "preview" as it were. Is there a way to store the url of the image selected as a variable for a real time update?
