@shirso:

"I'm a revolutionary, I came to revolutionize this hell!"

Katsura Kotarou

Katsura Kotarou, a fugitive wanted by the authorities, is the leader of a moderate Joui faction, a rebel faction who seeks to overthrow the Bakufu and the current government. He fought in the Joui War, leading his soldiers alongside Sakata Gintoki and Takasugi Shinsuke, who were also the also taught by his mentor, Yoshida Shouyou. Besides being an expert swordsman, Katsura is a tactical genius and is proficient in the use of explosives, which he can use in his fights to gain an advantage.

Information

  • Gender - Male

  • Height -175 cm (5' 9")

  • Weight -56 kg (124 lb)

  • Eyes -Brown

  • Hair - Black

  • Age - Late 20s

  • Occupation - Terrorrist

  • Status - Alive

Prelude

Seems to me like Luther Strode really has become one of the battle forum's favorites. Due to him being so well known, I believe a long introduction isn't really required, considering most people know the basics to the users of the Hercules Method. This way, you could focus more on countering and presenting your arguments. Luckily for me, though Katsura is obscure, he is relatively simple. He has speed at or above the level of anyone in the Luther Strode series, coupled with impressive strength and skill.

Katsura is one of the finest swordsmen that Gintama has to offer, being a match for the series' strongest fighters. He doesn't fight often, preferring to not put his men at risk, but whenever he does, he is very impressive. He evenly matched Saito Shimura, the third division commander and strongest fighter the Shinsengumi had to offer. He also fought and defeated Neptune Shoukaku, who was the physically strongest member of the much feared Harusame Pirates. Said group was the largest Amanto crime syndicate in the universe, composed of thousands of alien mercenaries, many of them superhuman, being the best warriors from a variety of planets.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8

In their first fight, a sparring match, Katsura and Saito fought for an hour straight, despite Kotarou having already beaten over thirty men. They only stopped because the Shinsengumi chief asked them to. It's important to note that Okita Sougo, the first division commander, stated himself that Saito was a much scarier fighter than he was. This is really impressive, considering that Okita himself has cut down bullets from two snipers simultaneously, fights like a blur, and, as can be seen below, has killed dozens of shinobi.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4
By the way, these same shinobi had easily killed off the Shogun's personal guard prior to Okita's arrival.

(If you're interested, here is the second fight between them, which was also a tie. It's a pretty great fight scene in my opinion.)

No Caption Provided

When it comes to strength and durability, I also expect Katsura to have the edge in durability, and have strength that can rival Luther's. Against Neptune Shoukaku, someone strong enough smash stone or eat a bomb and be fine, he took numerous hits and still pushed through and won. Their full fight can be seen here. The highlight of the fight is the scene is to the right, where the Amanto gets a direct hit on Katsura. Said hit was strong enough to nearly level a multi-story building, but he still managed to take it in stride, grab Shoukaku's staff, and then seriously injure the space pirate. This fight has many other great feats. For example, Katsura was smashed into a stone wall and instantly recovered. He's also strong enough to break Shoukaku's staff, which could crush stone, while being smashed through walls, and fast enough to fight while jumping off buildings.

I'd wager that Katsura is more skilled than Luther as well. After all, he has been training his entire life, and has over a decade of battle experience. Kotarou has also matched some of Earth's strongest samurai and defeated powerful alien warriors.

Closing

I hope you can see some of Katsura's advantages. He's faster, more durable, more skilled, far more agile, and can rival Strode's strength. Luther can't really tank Katsura's sword strikes, since Gintama's katanas are quite sharp. Using his bombs, Katsura can force his opponent to back off or injure him badly if he is caught by the explosion. Luther might have his move reading, but that could be countered by Katsura's superior speed and expert swordsmanship. Anything that is dished out against Kotarou wouldn't be too troublesome, considering he's taken blows from people physically stronger than either Luther or himself. Strode also can heal quite fast, if I'm not mistaken. However, Katsura would attempt to dismember him or go for fatal blows, which could bring him down.

@shirso: If you want to use it in the battle forum, you should probably read the manga. Fights are easier to find and there are more of them, since a few arcs were skipped by the anime. However, I think the anime is generally funnier and more enjoyable, mostly because the voice actors are great.

@youngkaiser: Here we go...

No Caption Provided

Bio

Luther Strode was your typical high school dork, complete with the mean bully, the seemingly unattainable girl of his dreams, and an equally dorky best pal. All that changed when a random body building magazine, the Hercules Method, actually worked. In fact it worked a tad bit too well, turning him into an effortless killing machine and sending him on the path of a ruthless vigilante.

The usual superhero stuff follows, culminating into an epic (and obviously extremely bloody, its Luther Strode after all) showdown against history's first ever murderer.

Powers and Abilities

Strode is an user of the Hercules Method, which is basically a handbook on murder. So, obviously Strode is an expert in, well, murder.

As such he has your typical high street level enhanced physical stats, with a few interesting curve balls thrown in. Not much hax. Here is a brief rundown of his abilities:

  • Superhuman strength

  • Superhuman speed

  • Superhuman durability and endurance

  • Healing factor

  • Precognition

  • Move reading

  • Expert H2H combatant

Instead of a mini RT, let's pit Kotaro's feats in each relevant category against Luther's, and see who comes out on top.

Strength

Here are the feats of strength you have shown for Kotaro so far:

Against Neptune Shoukaku, someone strong enough smash stone or eat a bomb and be fine, he took numerous hits and still pushed through and won.

He's also strong enough to break Shoukaku's staff, which could crush stone,

Not bad at all, but hardly impressive compared to the stuff even early Strode has done. Let's compare feats.

No Caption Provided

A relatively inexperienced Strode, easily snaps chains, shatters steel beams, and knocks the Librarian (a fellow Method user) to the ground.

So we see that Strode is already at Kotaro's strength levels.

Of course this is nothing compared to what happens in the actual fight between Strode and the Librarian shortly.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4

Evenly matches the Librarian, completely destroying a warehouse in the process and finally kills him by ripping out his spine.

This is overall a great feat for Strode's strength, speed and skill. How impressive is the Librarian?

As you can see the Librarian is durable enough to no sell getting smashed through walls and taking repeated blows from Strode.

He is also strong enough to punch through the top of a police van and turn the driver's head to paste, and fast enough to casually dodge bullets at point blank range.

After 5 years roughing it out as a vigilante, Strode has gotten exponentially stronger.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3

1)Punches through a metal door and turns a guy's head into a splattery mess.

2)Does the same thing, only this time with concrete and against armed and alert professional mercenaries.

3)Follows it up by throwing a guy across a street so hard that he crashes through a wall. Doubles up as a good precog and reflex feat, when he uses a human shield to block sniper rounds from an enhanced human.

That should be enough for now. Its clear that even Strode's earliest feats are more than a match for Kotaro in the strength department, whose best showing so far is smashing stone.

Advantage: Strode

Speed

This is really impressive, considering that Okita himself has cut down bullets from two snipers simultaneously, fights like a blur, and, as can be seen below, has killed dozens of shinobi.

All stuff that early Strode has easily done.

No Caption ProvidedNo Caption Provided

Races past close quarters automatic gunfire from several trained gunmen, and blitzes 4 of them.

In Legend, he is fast enough to take on both Binder and Jack the Ripper in a handicap match, and even be winning.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

This is extremely impressive because both Binder and Jack are proficient Method users, who are all casual bullet timers.

and fast enough to fight while jumping off buildings.

Stuff that most comic peak humans can replicate tbh.

Advantage: Strode

Durability

Since my opponent is a swordsman, it would be more relevant to show some cutting resistance feats from Strode.

First, one of his more well known abilities, he can no sell bullet fire by catching the bullets with his muscles.

No Caption ProvidedNo Caption Provided

He can also do this to knives.

No Caption ProvidedNo Caption Provided

The above is even more impressive because that's Jack the Ripper, an enhanced human himself who is stabbing at him.

But by far his best asset in this regard is his considerable healing factor and off the charts pain tolerance.

One of the earliest, and best examples of this is in his fight against the Librarian.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3

Shrugs off getting disemboweled, instead turning the tables by using his intestines to snap his opponent's neck (yup, its gross). Later, "wills" his intestines to heal themselves back.

Remarks: Though Luther probably can't 100% no sell cutting attacks, he does have some amount of resistance to them, and can fight through fatal wounds using his healing factor and pain tolerance. Kotaro might be able to hurt him a little (though its up to you to prove he can cut someone whose muscles are strong enough to stop bullets), its nothing that Strode can't easily fight through.

Precog and Move reading

Luther can predict his opponent's moves and is generally quite hard to cheap shot.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

1) Predicts his mom is about to drop a plate.

2) Accurately predicts the Librarian, another Method user's moves.

Initial thoughts

I am interested to see what else you have up your sleeve, but for now Strode simply beats Kotaro to death with all round superior physicals, his healing factor (which has allowed him to come back from dismemberment) and precog, meaning Kotaro will be hard pressed to land a solid hit.

Strode is also a very competent fighter, and I am willing to bet he is just as skilled, if not more than Kotaro. I have shown glimpses of his fighting ability already in his fight against the Librarian and his 1v2 against the Binder and Jack. More in my next post.

@shirso:

@youngkaiser: Here we go...

  • Move reading

  • Expert H2H combatant

Instead of a mini RT, let's pit Kotaro's feats in each relevant category against Luther's, and see who comes out on top.

Strength

Here are the feats of strength you have shown for Kotaro so far:

Against Neptune Shoukaku, someone strong enough smash stone or eat a bomb and be fine, he took numerous hits and still pushed through and won.

@youngkaiser: Here we go...

@shirso:

@shirso:

@youngkaiser: Here we go...

@shirso:

@shirso:

@youngkaiser: Not really related, but is the Gintama manga worth it? I have heard mostly good review but would like a personal opinion. Thinking of either starting this or Yu Yu Hakusho.

@shirso: If you want to use it in the battle forum, you should probably read the manga. Fights are easier to find and there are more of them, since a few arcs were skipped by the anime. However, I think the anime is generally funnier and more enjoyable, mostly because the voice actors are great.

@youngkaiser: Here we go...
