The actor has said he is "open" to playing a Marvel or DC hero.

Here are some heroes I think he should play.

Professor X

Charles Xavier is white in the comics, but flipping his race might actually be a good idea. It'd be interesting to make Professor X a black man, and maybe he could be even more allegorical to racism as a result.

Green Lantern (John Stewart)

Lantern Stewart is likely one of DC's most well-known black superheroes. In addition to that, the Green Lantern Corps movie is likely going to have an older Hal Jordan and John Stewart. With Tom Cruise reportedly being heavily considered to play Jordan, why not have Denzel play Stewart?

Blade

This would obviously be an older version of Blade, but he's not supposed to be young. Washington certainly has the grit and action chops to play the daywalking vampire vigilante, and he'd certainly pack a theater to see it.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight isn't black in the comics, but no one really would care if his race were flipped. Denzel, like I said, has a lot of grit and I feel like he'd do an amazing job as the tortured hero that Moon Knight is.

Martian Manhunter

This would be my number-one choice for Denzel to play in the DCEU. First of all, Denzel looks like the character, both in alien and human form, as J'onn J'onnz is depicted more recently as having an African-American human form. Second of all, I think Washington has the right personality to pull off a great performance as the character.

Steel (John Henry Irons)

Known as a replacement for Superman in the early '90s, John Henry Irons also appeared in a terrible film starring Shaq. However, I'm not saying he should get his own movie. I'd like to see him show up in a Man of Steel sequel, or maybe even a future Justice League installment. Washington would be the perfect age to play the character.

Blue Marvel

Blue Marvel would be the perfect hero for Denzel to play, and especially since the hero is a remnant of the Civil Rights era. Washington would be able to pull off the grit and alienation of the character well, but could also capture the heroic, sympathetic nature of the ultra-powerful hero.

Black Lightning

Black Lightning currently has a good TV series, and it seems like he'll be a TV staple for a while. However, I feel like he should appear in a movie someday, and Washington would be a great choice to play him.

Mister Terrific

Michael Holt is a genius inventor and hero, and I feel like Washington would be a nice choice to play him.

Doctor Manhattan

Manhattan is white in the comics, but he could easily be race-flipped. Anyway, Denzel would be able to capture a lot about the character, similar to Blue Marvel, and could deliver a compelling performance. Perhaps, if a Watchmen movie reboot happens, or maybe a Dr. Manhattan prequel, Washington would be a great choice to play him.

It's interesting to note how the capitalist class is willing to make Martian manhunter who was White earlier, black (or Nick Fury for that matter)but not actually gamble on the their flagship properties like Superman and Batman

It seems they think they can get away by making Alan Scott gay for some token "representation" but not move for actual change

He's a little old for most roles but i think his voice could do really well with a cg character.
