If you search "Japan" on youtube, you will see almost all of the videos have lots of views, usually over 500k.

I remember there is a youtube video called "What nationality in Asia do you find the most attractive", most people apparently say "Japanese".

And when Japan does something good but common (e.g. making an apple peeler which already exists since 1700s and apparently was not invented by Japanese people), people will often excessively compliment Japan on that tiny craft.

When I asked my friends what their favorite country is, they immediately said "Japan". Also, when I was in the library, I heard so many strangers say "I wanna go to Japan", "I love japanese", "I am learning the japanese culture", and so on.

If there is a natural disaster having occurred in Japan, most people will say "sad", "god please save Japan". But if it's Iraq or other countries, some people would still take it as a joke.

Why?

What originally got me into Japan was actually the history of the country and the language itself. I love how Japanese sounds and have learned it for a bit now. As for the history aspect, like someone said, samurai and ninja are awesome, even in their historical forms, a personal favorite of mine is Takeda Shingen.

That being said I'm into Asian history in general, so it's not just exclusive to Japan.

1. the samurai and Bushido code

1.1 Ninjas

2. the fact that they never let Shinto and Buddhism as religions to wash their brains the same way christianity, islam and judaism did to the rest of the world. they actually curbed them, transformed them into a very logical system of "believes" reminding a lot to the theory of evolution which I accept and use to explain the world to myself. the Buddhism also has this in itself but the tantra, the mantras, the deities and the rest of the shit made by the puny weak men, kinda qualify it as religion. While Shinto and Zen are clearly not.

3. the architecture - the mix of skyscrapers and the traditional wooden houses always amazes me.

4. the devotion and motivation this people have - to work, to innovate, to fight the unhealthy climat and the earthquakes

5. the tea ceremony - I'm huge fan of this beverage, I pick up herbs every year, dry them, then make a tea, write down which herb suits best which recipe and then foking drink it - just one of my favourite "rituals" if I may use this word. Nothing to do with the plebs drinking coffee, spilling coffee every morning process.

Last but not least, not only not least but probably most important to me - they do respect the private space. In my country especially but also all around the world, the people are so fucking curious, they gossip, they don't accept the different. In Japan they don't care about you or if they do, they value the borders.

I don't even watch anime, read manga or have interest in high tech.

2. the fact that they never let Shinto and Buddhism as religions to wash their brains the same way christianity, islam and judaism did to the rest of the world. they actually curbed them, transformed them into a very logical system of "believes" reminding a lot to the theory of evolution which I accept and use to explain the world to myself. the Buddhism also has this in itself but the tantra, the mantras, the deities and the rest of the shit made by the puny weak men, kinda qualify it as religion. While Shinto and Zen are clearly not.

Because a lot of what we see of it in the West seems wacky. In reality it's very likely quite normal and they look at us (America) with our out-of-control gun violence, obesity and puritanical roots and think that we're the ones who are nuts.

1. the samurai and Bushido code

1.1 Ninjas

2. the fact that they never let Shinto and Buddhism as religions to wash their brains the same way christianity, islam and judaism did to the rest of the world. they actually curbed them, transformed them into a very logical system of "believes" reminding a lot to the theory of evolution which I accept and use to explain the world to myself. the Buddhism also has this in itself but the tantra, the mantras, the deities and the rest of the shit made by the puny weak men, kinda qualify it as religion.

Because a lot of what we see of it in the West seems wacky. In reality it's very likely quite normal and they look at us (America) with our out-of-control gun violence, obesity and puritanical roots and think that we're the ones who are nuts.

How can you not love a country with a marching army of Pikachu?

1. the samurai and Bushido code

1.1 Ninjas

2. the fact that they never let Shinto and Buddhism as religions to wash their brains the same way christianity, islam and judaism did to the rest of the world. they actually curbed them, transformed them into a very logical system of "believes" reminding a lot to the theory of evolution which I accept and use to explain the world to myself. the Buddhism also has this in itself but the tantra, the mantras, the deities and the rest of the shit made by the puny weak men, kinda qualify it as religion.
