so then explain it away since, since then he has never been heard of again, and his mother and grandmother have been known to kick Big G's ass without being plot devices "

His mother beat a starving Galactus and I have never actually seen Big G fight anyone at full strength I don't see how his grandma beating him is overly impressive.  When Dark Phoenix first manifested Reed Richards stated that her power levels rivaled those of Galactus. The Galactus that he had met at that point was nowhere near his full power and was seeking to consume a new planet to replenish his strength. Obviously he failed, or there would be no Earth, meaning that at the time the only reading the Richards could have gotten would have been the energy levels of a hungry Galactus.  Hyperstorm lost to Galactus because the type of energy he produced was one that Galan metbolized, meaning that there was nothing he could do to stop Big G. If it weren't for that plot device, I doubt anything would have stopped him. "

Wrong, His mother is the one a fully fed Galactus came to earth to destroy and she threw Nova at him and knocked his ass over with, he tried to erase her and found out that to do so would kill him and the universe he was in.  The Phoenix Force was what beat Galactus and he was not near death until after the fight depleting his power trying to fight her, and claiming that her power only grew while his weakened because the source of her power was greater than his, at this point she was tapping into the life force of future generations.  Reed Richards reading on Dark Phoenix was before she ate a star and became big Gs rival and after that feeding became second only to the creator, after which Reed says that she is the Big Bang, which is a force that made sure Galactus was born.  The source of Hyperstorms power is the same source of Sue Storms power and as a power that is part of the universe is a product of the big bang, which is The Phoenix. "

@edamame: Quite. A lot of people back then on comicvine really underestimated the Phoenix, as evidence by the many who support Hyperstorm in spite of the fact that he lost to Galactus.

@edamame: it can reclaim stolen power and remove all traces of it. The sword of the Phoenix kept a shadow, the Cuckoos stole and locked away splinters and the Phoenix took it all back.
