It is clearly implied here in Superman vol. 4 #41 that Superman and Lois Lane didn't raise their son under any religion, he didn't directly answer Jon's question: "should I believe in God? or Rao or whoever?", he only implied he believes in something and that something isn't everything, how do you interpret this? Looks to me like he does believe in something but that he discourages religion. There's a whole context to this scan, Superman tried to save a planet full of religious fanatics who refused to be saved from their planet's explosion because they believed that their God wanted to sacrifice them.

I know DC has a God named The Presence, but I don't think Supes worships him through Judaism, Christianity or Islam.

If I were in the DC universe, I'd be very confused about what gods to worship. Superman knows Wonder Woman, a descendant of Greek gods, and he knows (or at least knows of) John Constantine, a man who is living proof of the God from the Bible, and that's on top of all the new gods he's had to meet and fight over the years. When asked about which gods he believes in, I'm surprised Superman didn't say "Be more specific, I believe in plenty."

I believe Clark and a few other heroes believe in something greater, something that he will NEVER have physical proof of like the Olympian gods or even the God and Angels characters like Constantine's face. I like to think he doesn't have any specific religion but believes there is a force out their capable of good and miracles, a concept that even with all their resources no one in the DC Universe even the "Presence" himself can reach.

There's the Presence, who is essentially God. I don't think the gods like Wonder Woman and Darkseid count since they are not actually omnipotent and omniscient.

But I don't know if Superman knows about the Presence. Based on this, I think he believes in God since he says there must be "something" out there, but he doesn't really care either at the end of the day. He isn't religious, but just acknowledges that there is likely a God or some sort of higher power or force out there based on what he has seen.

I wouldn't expect writers to make a character like Superman religious all of a sudden since he never really has been, he's not like Daredevil where it is a big part of his character.

@jayc1324: I agree, I don't even think you need to be religious in the DC Universe, although the Presence is based on the Abrahamic God he's still a DC character and differs from the one in real-life religions; there's no indication that he damns anyone to hell for not following Judaism, Christianity or Islam; those religions are just man-made concepts when in actuality no one knows the truth about Presence or his will, I think that's the case in DC.

with the amount of culture and "Godhoods" that he has seen, i'm inclined to believe that he doesn't really buy into to much of "worshipping powerful beings and believing their precepts" however he's likely to believe there's something out there since he is brought up in earth.
