Google Classroom API python QuickStart fails with “Something went wrong. Please try again.”

This question may be too general but I wanted to ask it in case someone else has seen the exact same issue and had a workaround.

I go to the Google Classroom API docs page, click on Guides, then click on Python on the left:

https://developers.google.com/classroom/quickstart/python

The first step contains a big blue button labeled "Enable the classroom api." I click that button and it brings up a dialog. I select my project from the dialog and click Next and it responds with an error dialog stating: "Something went wrong. Please try again." I've tried it numerous over numerous days and from different browsers, all with the same result.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you found a solution or workaround?
