Hello,

I was wondering whether a story arc that is essentially an adaptation such as Robert E. Howard's Conan tale Black Colossus should be specifically linked to one particular publisher's effort (in this case Dark Horse Comics) or if it should be more neutral so it could be added to other publishers like Marvel, Glenat, etc? This would make the story arc more useful to searchers as well as creating less clutter (same story arc for everyone who attempts to adapt it). Thanks.

@kuonphobos: A story arc should be specific for each publisher.

With your Black Colossus example, Dark Horse is credited as the publisher since they published the arc first. Any reprint of that specific arc is noted on the body of the story arc page, even if it is a different press doing the reprint. Any foreign adaptations are also noted, even if they have a different publisher.

Further, if Marvel were to do their own original arc with Conan that was called "Black Colossus" then it would get its own story arc page.

Quick and fast rule: One story arc - even if reprinted by other publishers - gets one story arc page.

Also, comic issues not part of the initial run (like foreign translations) are not credited with the story arc.

@renchamp: OK thanks for the explanation. I'll fix anything that needs fixin'. BTW, Marvel was the first to publish "Black Colossus" and probably all the other REH adaptations both in the 1970s Conan the Barbarian color comic, again as reprints in SSoC and possibly once more in Conan the Savage magazine in the 80s and 90s. Cheers.

@kuonphobos: Cool, so the original run should be tagged on its issues with the arc and all other editions should be noted on the story arc page.

Was Marvel's adaptation of Black Colossus in more then a single issue? adaptation doesn't necessarily equal a story arc, a CV arc page is for a story that goes across multiple issues with a designated title and if I'm remembering correctly most of those old Marvel REH adaptations were single issue so they would not classify as a story arc, with Dark Horse they specifically expanded on adaptations and they became proper arcs. Also with foreign editions they are generally self contained as a single BD or graphic novel and again wouldn't be classified as an arc. Another thing to keep in mind as well is if a story arc is self contained in its own mini-series/maxi-series then it would not get a story arc page since that would be redundant.

@pikahyper: Thanks. Only a few of the adaptations in Savage Sword were multi issue but most of the Marvel adaptations as you say were single issue only.
