With the Power (Gem) Stone he should beat Odin. Without it, he would still win on paper/screen due to some plot device or just the fact that he is way smarter and would be able to outsmart and eventually beat Odin. But Odin should overall be more powerful than Thanos without any Gems/Stones.

Even if we ignore their levels of power in comics, I feel like MCU would make Odin more powerful.

I'd back Odin. Loki referred to Odin as one of the most powerful beings in the universe. We know Odin conquered many of the realms before with Hela. We know Odin is a powerful magician, as he was able to overcome Loki's spell on him in Ragnarok. I also still think he has more raw power than Thor, considering he was able to imprison Hela, and Thor was not able to beat her. Hela herself could probably beat Thanos with her blades. I imagine as a more powerful Thor, with magical abilities far surpassing Loki's. He enchanted Mjolnir casually, and it was an extremely effective spell that never failed. In Norse mythology, many gods are just able to curse others with whatever they want to. I can see Odin having that power to a degree, given how he just randomly made it so that only those worthy could pick up Mjolnir, and it worked. It seems like a random spell to have, but he just did it.

Also, Thanos has never shown a truly effective use of the Power Stone. Throwing a moon and using energy beams from it won't be enough.

Thanos could one shot Asgard with the powerstone if he really wanted to

Odin hasn't done anything to suggest he could take on Thanos with the power gem he lost his eye to the frost giants and got destroyed by Dark elves his two best off screen feats are defeating Surtur who most likely was similar to the one Thor fought and imprisoning Hela who he did the same to Thor and Thor normally does everything on his own while Odin has never done anything without a massive army like the Frost Giants or even Hela making the Valkyries suicide her

So it seems that a prime incarnation of Odin is even greater than Surtur, at his strongest. Which means that Thanos loses unless he has the Infinity Gauntlet.

Without stones? Hard to tell. Odin defeated Surtur, Hela and conquered the Nine Realms. Granted this was with any army and a bunch of other factors. We've seen him in action in Thor 1.

Thanos is definitely stronger and very likely more intelligent. But Odin has power external to that. Thanos in the MCU doesn't appear to. They both may know some magic though. I would bet that Odin and Thanos would probably tie in the MCU. If Thanos has stones he wins.

Odin has defeated officially Hela, Surtur, Laufey, we saw him depowering Thor, he has conquered easily our system, controlling Mjolnir, Stormbreaker broke Thanos, can't imagine what would Odin's weapon do to him, also he definitely possesses the bigger wisdom and knowledge.

Whad do we have about Thanos? Korath, his son, praysing him, Ronan not afraid of him at all, he was sassy even without the power stone, frightened Gamora doesn't hesitating to jump on him despite 3 stones, Nebula almost succeeded in killing him, and Team Iron man/Quill dominating him on Titan...

Given all this, I would've given Odin the victory even if Thanos had 5 stones.

Odin seemed very weakened throughout the entire Thor trilogy, and was still quite impressive, at least in Thor 1. I think he could win.

At his prime, he wins for sure.

Thanos had to wait for Odin to die so that he could start his crusade for the infinity stones.

As the title says this is an on paper fight, meaning feats aren't the main debating point. Statements are taken into consideration. In this battle Thanos only has the power gem.

Thor: I thought my father killed you.

I don't personally think Odin ever came across as all powerful in the movies, not to the same level as Thanos

I think with only power stone, Thanos loses to prime Odin.

Odin seemed very weakened throughout the entire Thor trilogy, and was still quite impressive, at least in Thor 1. I think he could win.

At his prime, he wins for sure.

Thanos had to wait for Odin to die so that he could start his crusade for the infinity stones.
