Most of Superman's versions have FTL speed in flight, and in combat as well. Quite often his go to move against his enemies is the speedblitz, where is flies in really fast, punches his enemies into oblivion, before they even know what hit them(except for against weaker enemies where he either apprehends them or knock them out).

Now as this is a very in-character trait of superman, it is often used on the Battle forums. Quite often he is matched up against foes with either less speed and more durability or fast speed but less durability. In first scenario superman will just fly really fast and destroy the guy with like a lot of punches in a short time, and in the second scenario he will fly equally as fast and will destroy his foe with like a lot of punches in a short time.

And this doesn't even include his other abilities such as heat vision, freeze breath etc. If he deploys either of these things in combat along with his superspeed he can easily overwhelm most of his foes.

So, most of the battle forum threads with superman against comparatively less durable foes always end in speedblitz. So, my questions are:

  • Should his speed be nerfed in these battles?

  • Should his foes' speed be enhanced?

  • Should these battles be done, without the possibility for a speedblitz?

  • Or should battles not be done at all?

  • Any other thoughts?

Without even getting into the whole consistency debate, the answer here will depend on cold hard feats. Most characters in his tier wouldn't be all that bothered by the heat vision (if at all) and I am willing to bet the same for the freeze breath. Plus he can move as fast as he wants and that won't change the rate at which he heats up or freezes his opponents. As for the speedblitz, that depends on whether he has put people with comparable durability down with them.

@mega6382: battle forum rules already specify all of the scenarios you pointed out.

1. nerfing superman means threading the thin line of an imbalanced thread, which is making him useless given how alot of his abilities are core to him, and argument worthy thread, given certain aspects of his abilities are only argumentable within a certain scenario like his fighting prowess as a whole.

2, boosting superman's foe isn't viable given the rules state that they need to have history of using those powers or items accordingly.

3. as the OP of such thread, it is your job to make it fair on both sides, add to that the other requirements on creating a battle thread as said in the battle forum rules. other people and moderators can see that your thread is a mismatched one and it gets called out accordingly and locked eventually.

4. a character's personality is also a key point in speedblitzing.

3. as the OP of such thread, it is your job to make it fair on both sides, add to that the other requirements on creating a battle thread as said in the battle forum rules. other people and moderators can see that your thread is a mismatched one and it gets called out accordingly and locked eventually.

4. a character's personality is also a key point in speedblitzing.
