Where you up to? And I feel the same, I hope there's a very real pay-off and we don't get the JJ Abrams "mystery box" but there's no mystery inside when all's said and done. Apparently episode 8 is some epic twist.

Guy at 0:20 really reminds me of the Low Men/Can-toi, he barely seems human. The God figure everybody seems to be hearing could in fact be the Crimson King, there have been a couple of potential allusions to him so far.

The thing is that Stephen King's own books are jam-packed with endless names, locations, people, concepts etc. that crossover as well, so as a psuedo-adaptation this is no different from an actual Stephen King novel in that regard.

@rogueshadow: I have no idea, a manifestation of the schisma Odin talked about.

That would be my guess. I don´t like the idea of him being a reincarnation or lost one of one of the Deavers, or him being an already existant King character.

But could be anything, I just want some answers already hehe.

@payneintheass: There've been quite a lot of references to The Dark Tower so far, the Crimson King chess-piece, the bird falling off the telephone wire when the Kid walks by is a direct allusion to Randall Flagg etc. Castle Lake seems to be a Thinny (an area where the fabric reality is "thin"), I think that that's pretty much all the schisma is, a thinny has a screeching sound that can drive you mad. I'm curious as to what the voice of God that spoke to Lacey is.

I think he either has the same powers as John Coffey, or he really could be Randall Flagg, reborn and robbed of his memories (for now). Memory and rebirth have been a major theme of the series since the first episode when the woman on death row discussing dying and loss of memory upon death felt really on the nose.

I hope it's a worthwhile pay-off, Deaver's dead son would be a bit straightforwards.

I feel like the episode can stand on it´s own. Really well crafted, it had horror, bit of sci fi, drama, emotion, tenderness, you call it.

I only disliked the song choice at the end, I feel like Arrival set the bar high in using it. heh

As for the Kid I´m still going with physical manifestation of the schisma

@payneintheass: I put your post in spoilers, just in case some of the people above haven't seen the finale yet.

I think that is the case. I watched the last 2 episodes back to back and The Kid's story is bull in my eyes. The idea of a normal person going from one universe to another causing the effects the Kid was having because of it is not an element of King lore, and the writers have said repeatedly that everything is rooted in King's works. People move freely between universes and it doesn't have the effect on people/the environment just because they're "not supposed to be there". Completely debunks the Kid's story for me, he was doing this shit on purpose from the start. That + the smile and his overt and intentional application of his powers in the jail completely confirm that he is malevolent for me.

I believe that he was a creature of the Prim (kind of like an interdimensional hellscape that is ruled by The Crimson King and exists on the fringes of all realities in King's lore), something similar to Pennywise but likely of a lower order, like Dandelo in TDT. But I do still think it's possible that he is a fallen, weaker Randall Flagg. He was definitely a malevolent being in my eyes, not an alternate reality Henry Deaver.

Henry, Molly and Wendell all have the Shine, he wanted to get Henry to the "schisma" i.e. Thinny, either because he wanted to escape this dimension and he couldn't locate it, or because he wanted Henry as a Breaker for the Crimson King.

I liked it overall, but they left a lot of stuff unanswered . Why does the Kid say "has it begun" when he meets Henry and the like? What was that about? I don't like the feeling that the writers don't know themselves.

I'm hoping that the themes in future seasons continue to play with the cosmic side of King, so even if they don't directly address these questions, we can get more of a feel for what was going on. I think next season is gonna be about Jackie, I was waiting for her to become more pertinent and she didn't, so I have to imagine that, given the mid-credits scene, they were setting her up for S2.

@rogueshadow: It doesn´t help either that we had to wait 7 days for each episode, I know this is common in other stuff, like HBO. But I can´t help but think that if it was released Netflix style, people would be less angry (?)

Also, I wonder how much the involvent of JJ Abrams influenced this whole unresolved ambiguity

But I liked it overall as well, some episodes were really good. (Episode 9 would´ve felt like a better ending)

I added it to my watchlist. I thought 11/22/63 was great, so maybe this might be just as good, if not better. I love Stephen King material.

It's a slow burn but it's taking off now and I'm genuinely curious how deep they're gonna go with the SK lore.

I think as well that Season 2 will be a bit more grounded tho, if they go the Jackie route.

I kind of like the drawn out discussion that can come from weekly releases though, they're dying so I like that there are still some shows like it around.

I'm honestly not sure how involved Abrams was, if he was just producing, or if he was involved in the creative side.

@payneintheass: One of my favourite episodes of recent TV. And apparently episode 8 is the "big one" so it should be epic. Who or what do you think the Kid is?

@rogueshadow: Ok I just saw it... really good indeed. Btw I thought it was released yesterday lol.

I added it to my watchlist. I thought 11/22/63 was great, so maybe this might be just as good, if not better. I love Stephen King material.

It's a slow burn but it's taking off now and I'm genuinely curious how deep they're gonna go with the SK lore.

@rogueshadow: Ok I just saw it... really good indeed. Btw I thought it was released yesterday lol.

I watched through the first eight episodes in quick succession this week, I'll return to the last two over this weekend. Definitely enjoying it a lot so far, episode 7 was a high mark for the series.

@rogueshadow: A very simplified version would be that the Kid was lying all along, he wasn´t some sort of innocent Henry from another universe, he was evil.

Did you liked the episode?
