Faraday is right, we've known about this for years. It doesn't change how incredibly depressing it is, though.

@valorknight: Do you think it's too soon like there's more story to be told and it was rushed or something or is everything just about wrapped up and it seems about the right time for it to end? (assuming you're caught up and all)

It's been going strong since 2006, and it's essentially gotten to everything we'd need to know before the end (except for this flashback fight us fans have been asking for since Yoshiwara). I feel like it's the right time for it to end, and it's going "well" so far, I just hope it doesn't slip up like so many of it's shōnen cousins have in the past.

@valorknight: I totally get what you mean haha and if those articles are true about there only being 5 more chapters left and it's been going well like you say then it definitely seems like it's going to end off strong. I mean... idk how they could screw it up so quickly lol but to be fair idk what's currently happening in the story atm so anything could happen I guess..

I don't buy into the "five chapters left" nonsense; they've been saying stuff like that since last year, and we've gotten over twenty chapters since then.

@valorknight: Oh haha really? Tbh I hope it doesn't end because Jump will be losing one of their biggest titles... but I guess it's better to end it while it's good before dragging it out and having it get worse or something.

If you don't mind me asking, why? It's a fantastic series, with a great story and an infinitely expandable universe, so I see no reason why it should have ended at any time in the past.

@valorknight: It's really hard to explain. I'm not even sure where I would stop it. but it lost flavour to me a few years ago. I mean it's great still. But it's kinda like the simpsons. yes the simsons theoretically could have gone forever but. should it? i dunno. It just lost the charm to me after a while. Maybe I just got fatigued a few years ago

@soaringturkeys: You have a good point. Do you remember around when in the series this started happening for you?

@piratekingoda: i think somewhere around 400? last thing was a few chapters after a singing comp or something. Like i know filler arcs are a big part of the manga but in all honesty i've kinda forgotten what the story was about and it's hard for me to continue things that add nothing to move the story forward. I think I skipped ahead about another 50 chapters after and i got interested again but then i lost it completely after like 460-490. It's been like a few years since i last read it. So I don't know when

@soaringturkeys: Oh damn, really? Are there really filler arcs like that in the manga and not just the anime?? Because I gotta tell you..... I'm a huge OP fan.... but I've been re-reading the series.... and when I got to Davy Back I just let out a big sigh lol........... now in all honesty after reading it again I don't hate that arc as much as I remember.... however I can admit the only thing that kept me through it was my love for the characters and the comedic interactions between them.... so I feel like if I don't just totally fall in love with the cast of Gintama then I'm going to have a big problem lol

Would you say there's arcs in Gintama I could skip or I need to read it all even the filler arcs if I truly want to understand everything?? Because even the more "filler" arcs that people will say are in OP still have stuff you should read if you want the full context like Aokiji showing up right after the Davy Back fight, and some people say to skip Skypiea even though that has a ton of stuff you need to read for context.

@piratekingoda: yeah, filler arcs are probably not the right term to describe them. The whole davvy competition would probably be a good comparison to the arcs im talking about with gintama. It's a good manga. I would recommend it, I just know one of my flaws is that I want there to be a purpose for what i'm watching rather than it be just entertainment.

Is the anime any close to ending as well? I've been thinking of checking it but not if it's still on-going.
