I was reading Secret War and realised it came out in 2004, but I couldn't believe how unfamiliar all the heroes were with one another (Spider-Man didn't know Luke Cage very well if at all, which I found odd because I thought New Avengers came out around the same time). But Matt knew everyone.
But in general in old Avengers and X-Men titles, Matt would get a namedrop here and there from people you wouldn't expect. Wolverine is the only X-Man that would make sense to know him, but I recall Cyclops and Emma Frost casually mentioning him before, which again I find odd. I mean, if Spider-Man couldn't cross paths with Luke Cage considering their vicinity (both story-telling and location-wise) for some time, at least up until Secret War/New Avengers, I don't really understand how the X-Men or Mutants in general would know or care about Daredevil. Also when people like Carol Danvers mention him, they make it sound like he's a celebrity or something like the Fantastic Four.
I believe he helps the F4 with court cases? OK there's that connection. He knows Spidey, Logan, Cap... Still though, I feel he's too street-street level to the point where his name being tossed around and therefore coming off as kinda Superman or Batman-name status in the DCU, is a bit hard to grasp.

Yeah, I've always wondered that too. In a world of gods like Thor and monsters like Hulk, why is someone like Daredevil so important? It's not like he's Batman or Iron Man and has huge resources at his disposal.

Despite contuinty mseesing it up along with She Hulk, Matt Murdock is the go to guy for helping the hero community in new york, though apparently at the moment no one knows who he is...is there a reason for that? Because Luke and Danny defiantly knew in the Civil War era but in defenders they were honestly suprised.

There's a great comic where Luke Cage is narrating over Daredevil fighting giant robots or something, and he answers this exact question. Basically he speaks at length about how courageous, moral, and strong willed Daredevil is, and that every hero knows that Daredevil is as real deal as it gets, despite the fact that he is "street level." Matt has probably directly saved more lives than most heroes, so that's a point in his favor.

Daredevil is also a veteran hero in the Marvel universe. He first appeared rocking the yellow duds not long after the Fantastic Four made their debut. I think he predates The Avengers and Iron Man. So being a veteran and someone who got the ball rolling on this superhero thing definitely factors into Daredevil's notoriety and popularity.

Why is it so surprising? Its only fair to assume superheroes keep tabs on each other, regardless of their power and standing. Him giving them legal aid would also help his rep. Plus he knows all the right people too.

@stormshadow_x: Daredevil made everyone forget about his civilian identity with the help of the Purple Man's children. This was done during or after Secret Wars (2015). Everyone barring very few people, that is.
