Upgrading Project from Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2017

0

I have a project that I wrote in Visual Studio 2010. Now I want to upgrade it to Visual Studio 2017. When I tried to open the code in Visual Studio 2017, it didn't ask whether I want to upgrade the code or not. But when I tried to run it, this error appears:

Unable to copy file "objReleaseX799HMI.exe" to
"binReleaseX799HMI.exe". The process cannot access the file
'binReleaseX799HMI.exe' because it is being used by another process.

Can anyone tell me specifically on how to upgrade it? I don't know how to upgrade the code to the updated version of VS.

Update : the error up here is already solved. Thanks to cricket_007

There's no error anymore. But when I run it, the program crashes and this appears:

  • The source code shouldn't need upgrading... It's not dependant on an IDE. Looks like you have a previous project that's running

  • The sourcecode does not need any modifications. It mgiht have new options, but nothing else. The project file might need an update. But even that is unlikely. This path is odd, as it is pointing to a build folder. Could it be you used the release build of another project (X799HMI.exe) as a reference? If so, do the paths set in the project file still match the current reality?

  • @Christopher I used the same project. I open it in vs2017 and build it. there's no modification been done, so the path is still match

  • @cricket_007 that's weird cause I didn't run the project at all :
