I find steampunk's mechanisms and machines visually pleasing and intriguing. I like to ponder how it might all work. I love the complexity of the clockwork and turning gears.
Cyberpunk I like more for the neon colors, strange hair styles, and tattoos. The people are what visibly draw the eye, which is interesting to me. Most genres it's the outfit that draws attention, not the hair and skin.
I don't know if I can choose. I like both for their visuals but for different reasons.

I voted for Cyberpunk.
Steampunk is superior to me when it comes to aesthetic stuff, like the fashion and the look of the technology. Victorian fashion and clockwork stuff are my jam, ngl. Cyberpunk, however, also has an interesting look to it, which can be equally enjoyable and creative. Cyberpunk, however, blows Steampunk out of the water when it comes to the stories made within the genre. Cyberpunk stories tend to have more focus on the "punk" part of the genre name, and more focus on establishing a conflict to direct the plot, than most Steampunk things I've read and seen.
Both are pretty great though.

I cut my anime teeth on cyberpunk anime way back in the day. Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Tank Police, Armitage, Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed. I played Cyberpunk 2020 and Shadowrun the tabletop RPG's with my friends on Saturday nights. I read William Gibson novels and paid money to see Johnny Mnemonic, Virtuosity, Freejack and Runaway in the theater. I watched every episode of Max Headroom. I've loved the genre since as long as I can remember. I like steampunk, but nowhere near to the level of cyberpunk. The CD Projekt Red game is currently the game I want more than any other. I feel like I've waited a lifetime for it, and I am certain I won't be disappointed.

I prefer steampunk because it is open to high fantasy elements, and it has a better aesthetics.
It is often about adventure and exploration and discovery. Of human triumphant over adversity
Cyberpunk are usually about dark, nihilistic, dystopian future, which either turned the world into a surreal post-apocalyptic junkyard or creepy sanitized thought-policed society filled with high-level corruption.
Humans are often depicted soulless and helpless pawn of the advance society and technology. Very bleak and depressing.

Cyberpunk. I like the neon, tech, and subject matter of the stories. Got hooked on cyberpunk with Blade Runner, Bubblegum Crisis, and manga like Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed.

Deus Ex is even the best Cyberpunk game series so far and just 1 of the many reasons why i prefer Cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk. I like the neon, tech, and subject matter of the stories. Got hooked on cyberpunk with Blade Runner, Bubblegum Crisis, and manga like Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed.
