nginx request processing measurement

I'm trying to measure how long it takes to "proxy" a hole message to my upstream and how long it takes for the the proxy to start responding ?
I'm making several POST in a rows to a service behind nginx.
Hence, does anyone has any idea of how i can measure that, as in what module and variable are available that would allow me to measure it ?
If you have any pointers that would be amazing.
