Rails active directory filter associations
I have the following setup in my Rails applications:
Person
- has_many :positions
- has_many :departments
Position
- has_many :people
- belongs_to :department
Department
- has_many :people
- has_many: positions
A person can belong to multiple departments and a position can also belong to multiple departments (a person can have a different position for each department) ... e.g. Joe Bloggs is a cleaner in Dept_1 and a teacher in Dept_2 etc ... I have to filter on department twice (for both position and person)
I want to create a "people" page for a department showing all assigned people of that department but also the position they have in that department (if any) e.g. list Joe as a cleaner on the Dept_1 people's page and as a teacher on the Dept_2 people's page.
I was trying to get all the cleaners for Dept_1 like:
@cleaners = Person.joins(:departments).where(:department => :name =>"Dept_1")
.includes(positions: :department)
.where(:department => :name => "Dept_1")
.where(:position => :name => "Cleaner")
but this is showing people positions from other departments.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
