Cannot use FireBase analytics despite dependencies added correctly

I'm trying to add firebase analytics to my published game so that I can add leaderboards and achievements to my game. I connected my game to firebase and added analytics to my dependencies but I can't use any firebase objects. I'm definitely missing something but I don't know what. Google play and firebase are set at the latest version and the project builds fine.

I figured that maybe I just needed to import the things manually and studio wasn't doing it automatically but that doesn't work either.
