TL;DR: Couple start GoFundMe for homeless man. They made $400,000. Homeless man has only seen a fraction of it. Couple say they're holding onto it as long as he can prove he's off of drugs and gets a job.

Does the homeless man deserve all the money even though he will fuel drug lords and kill himself? Or do the couple have the right to hold onto the money?

Of course they have no right to do this. This money isn't theirs, they merely collected it on his behalf.

I have a feeling that one of two things are happening. 1) This was a scam from the very beginning, or 2) They originally had good intentions, until the donations got bigger than they thought, and their altruism suddenly turned to greed.

Suspicious indeed. They gave him $25,000 though, so they are helping him out. Weirdly enough to need to have money or look like you have money, because i'm pretty sure they don't let homeless people into most buildings. Since the majority of jobs can only be applied online, then a computer lab at the library would not help el hombre.

You can kill yourself on drugs with a lot less than $25,000, so it doesn't seem like that excuse holds water. Since we're hearing the story I don't think this was a scam from the beginning, seems like this couple just shafted the guy. It's possible it's more a cash flow thing on their part, not that it's justified.
