Setting div visible onclick

.everyoneloves__top-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__mid-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__bot-mid-leaderboard:empty height:90px;width:728px;box-sizing:border-box;

I have a div in my aspx page. In a function that gets called onclick, in my code behind, the first line is:

divID.Visible=true;

In my page load, the first line is to set it to false. The idea is to show a small loading icon when a user clicks on the search button. However, the visibility is only set when the page reloads, and the element never shows.

Is there an alternative for this?

Thanks!
